Lowcountry Therapy is passionate about helping patients understand their potential and assisting in the discovery of techniques for coping, acceptance, accountability, and recovery. We look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.

 

At Lowcountry Therapy, we work with children, adolescents, individuals, and families who are navigating life transitions, depression, anxiety, grief, or other difficulties. We specialize in assisting individuals and families who have experienced acute or complex trauma, as well as those who are experiencing attachment challenges. Lowcountry Therapy highly values a therapeutic approach of working collaboratively with patients and providing supportive and practical feedback to help address personal life and family life challenges.

 

Together we will discover your strengths and improve insight to gain a deeper understanding of you and/or your loved one's experiences.  We assist you, your child, and your family in learning skills that will aid in attaining personal growth as well as addressing challenges in life. We aim to do this in a comfortable, creative, playful, and supportive atmosphere.

Jamie Kierpiec, MA, MFT, LPC

​

After attending Auburn University and graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Studies, Jamie understood the need to continue supporting and building up families in her community. She returned to school, and received a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, with an emphasis on Child, Adolescent, and Family Counseling from Liberty University. Jamie is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of South Carolina (License # 7013) and in the commonwealth of Virginia (License #071010071)

Jamie has worked in the counseling field since 2011, both in community-based mental health and private practice, and has previous experience working within a Children's Advocacy Center and as a Child Life Specialist (play therapist) in the oncology unit. Jamie spends her personal time with her husband and three children, and often times, you can find them on the water ZUP boarding, playing in the sand, or adventuring in the beautiful Lowcountry of South Carolina.

She is a Designated Examiner for the State of South Carolina, sits on the Dorchester District II School Counseling Advisory Board, and has completed the National Adoption Competency Mental Health Training Initiative. Jamie was also selected to receive training through MUSC and the National Crime Victim's Center (Project BEST) to deliver effective, evidence-supported treatment to children who have been victims of violence and abuse.

Brandi O'Connell, MSW, LISW-CP

Brandi has extensive history in providing therapy for adults, children and families in a variety of settings. Brandi also has significant experience with crisis intervention and prevention in the lowcountry community. Over her years in practice, she has worked within inpatient mental health facilities, private practice, school-based mental health services, and in the law enforcement setting with victims of crime.

​

Sometimes life is hard and we need a little assistance. Brandi believes strength is within us, and also that sometimes we need a little help finding it. She is here to support you along the journey of gaining understanding into yourself, your situation and your goals.

Brittany will be offering after-hours appointments Monday-Thursday, as well as Saturday availability from 9am to 12pm.

Psychology was introduced to her during her sophomore year of college. This grew a persistent interest of people, their actions, and how they interact in the world. This led her to graduating from Francis Marion University both her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Masters of Science degree in Clinical Psychology.

Brittany is a licensed counselor in the state of South Carolina (#7081).Brittany has been developing her understanding of her community in the counseling field since 2012. She’s been involved with helping people at residential drug and alcohol centers, safe living for survivors of domestic violence, community mental health, the forensic field of psychology in corrections, and providing counseling to victim’s of crime.

​

She focuses on helping her patients find their strengths and develop a plan to success while providing a supportive, non-judgmental environment to process stressors and barriers. She is also a notary public and designated examiner for the state, both certifying her to meet community needs in multiple capacities.

Cara Jones, Ed.S., LPC

Cara studied psychology and sports coaching, receiving her undergraduate degree from Newberry College. She continued her education at the University of South Carolina, earning her educational specialist degree in Counseling (Ed.S.). Cara is licensed in the state of South Carolina as a professional counselor (LPC, SC #5638).

 

Prior to working in private practice, Cara worked in the community as a school counselor for twelve years at both the elementary and high school levels. Cara also owns a gym where she leads classes and works with clients to improve nutrition, fitness and health. Outside of her professional life, Cara enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.

Cara utilizes a holistic approach to counseling, addressing all aspects of health to assist clients on becoming the best versions on themselves. She is a practitioner of several evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and works primarily with children, teens, athletes, and adults dealing with anxiety, adjustment issues, social skills and more. Cara also has a special interest in maternal mental health and postpartum care. She wants each client to grow their personal resilience toolkit and thrive in their everyday life. 

Caitlin Lybrand, MS, LPCA

Caitlin first developed her passion for mental health during her time at Charleston Southern University. This is where she earned her Bachelor's of Science in Psychology and her Master’s of Science in Clinical Counseling. Earning her degrees in the midst of a pandemic, continued to prove true a core belief: we need other people to help us grow.

​

Caitlin’s passion lies in working with children and adolescents. She believes that play is influential in gaining new skills, insights, and facilitating change in our lives. Children have the power to change the world, but it’s our job to equip them with the tools they need. Caitlin aims to create a safe, therapeutic and educational environment for children to succeed and families to grow together.

​

​

Caitlin uses a variety of different evidence-based practices, which include a developmentally appropriate CBT framework, therapeutic play techniques, and empowerment skills to conquer daily anxiety or struggles. As an LPCA, Caitlin is not currently paneled with insurance networks, but does offer a discounted rate per service and offers a flexible schedule to accommodate school-aged children.

Rates & Insurance

$125 for initial consultation, 50 minute individual, couple, or family counseling session

*Sessions run 50-minutes unless otherwise discussed and scheduled with your provider. Fees for initial sessions are due at time of booking by placing a credit card on file.

*Fees may vary by Provider. Please reach out to the individual Provider for the most accurate information.

 

Insurance

Lowcountry Therapy is an In Network Provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance network. Additionally, some practitioners are Certified Non-Network Providers with Tricare Select (unfortunately, not with Tricare Prime). This means we can bill to Tricare Select directly for those patients under that insurance umbrella, and then be reimbursed for services directly from Tricare Select.

 

Lowcountry Therapy is an Out of Network Provider for all other health insurance companies, which means we can provide supporting documentation ("superbilling documents") in order for you to file a claim for reimbursement from your health insurance provider at the Out of Network rate after each session.

 

To find out exactly how much of the fee you will be responsible for, it is recommend to contact your insurance company to ask about reimbursement rates for Out of Network mental health treatment. 

If you would like additional assistance seeking reimbursement, the company, Better, is a service that can help you understand the process and improve your chances of getting reimbursed. You’ll provide a picture of your bill and they will help you submit the claim for a small portion of the reimbursement. You can find their website here: https://getbetter.co

 

Payment

Lowcountry Therapy accepts cash, check, and all major credit cards as forms of payment. Payments are due in full at time of service. We reserve a limited number of treatment slots for sliding fee scale. Please call to discuss your needs.

 

Cancellation Policy

If you are unable to attend a session, please make sure you cancel at least 24 hours beforehand. Otherwise, you will be charged in full for the session time.
